A Google spokesperson explained that live streaming can be useful when presenting information to a larger audience outside of one’s organization, as it allows users to pause, replay, or watch the presentation at a later date.
Google’s Meet app will now allow users to livestream meetings to its YouTube streaming platform.
It can be enabled by selecting “Live Streaming” from the meeting’s Activities panel.
According to AndroidCentral, users can then select their channel to begin streaming the meeting.
“Live streaming is useful for presenting information to large audiences outside of your organization, allowing you to pause and replay the presentation as needed.
YouTube has a channel approval process for live streaming. Google warns users that they need to have their channel approved before they can livestream through Google Meet.
In its help page, the company explains that when host management is activated, the host and co-hosts are the only ones who can start livestreaming the meeting. Livestreaming can be started by anyone at the meeting if the option is off. If someone wishes to livestream the meeting, Google provides a privacy option.
According to the report, live streaming a meeting would be another way for Google to differentiate Meet from other platforms.
