A Java object-graph persistence framework, MicroStream, has announced its participation in the Eclipse Foundation as a Committer Member. MicroStream provides low-latency, in-memory data processing through Micro Persistence. Various storage solutions can be used to store Java objects and documents, including: AWS S3, Hazelcast, Kafka, MongoDB, Redis, and various SQL databases.
The Eclipse Foundation offers four levels of membership: strategic, contributing, associate, and committer. A committer member is a developer of an Eclipse project who is permitted to make changes to the project source code. Members of the committee are also represented on the board of directors and may stand for election to the board each year in the first quarter.
The Eclipse Foundation has developed and maintained hundreds of open source and open specification projects over the past twenty years. When organizations collaborate, they typically form a new association. Nevertheless, the Eclipse Foundation Working Groups offer members a “Foundation in a Box” that can help speed up and enhance collaboration. Members of the Eclipse Foundation are actively involved in Eclipse projects and working groups. Eclipse Foundation lists five reasons why they consider a working group to be a better alternative to an association: reduced risk due to a proven governance and legal framework, faster time to market, vendor neutrality, no boundaries to collaboration, and increased ecosystem health and visibility due to an established brand and infrastructure. The following are examples of some of the current working groups: Adoptium, The Eclipse IDE, Jakarta EE, and MicroProfile.
MicroStream has been very active in the Java community as they have recently joined the Micronaut Foundation, a non-profit organization devoted to evangelizing and defining the Micronaut framework’s future, as a Silver Sponsor. MicroStream is integrated via the Micronaut MicroStream module, but it is also possible to integrate MicroStream with Helidon, Spring Boot, and CDI. Through these close collaborations, MicroStream can be easily integrated into existing and new applications.
