On Tuesday at MongoDB World 2022 in New York City, MongoDB introduced new features for its namesake database and Atlas cloud service.
MongoDB 6.0 is scheduled for general availability in July, according to the vendor.
NoSQL document database MongoDB has expanded in recent years beyond its origins as a document database. As part of the MongoDB 5.0 update released in 2021, the database vendor added support for time series data and more in subsequent point releases, including MongoDB 5.3 in April.
The upcoming MongoDB 6.0 update boosts the performance of time series data.
Additionally, the new version will include a queryable encryption feature that enables users to search encrypted data.
MongoDB will also provide a preview of a columnstore index for data analytics applications in MongoDB 6.0. The columnstore feature will be a preview in the initial 6.0 release.
Besides MongoDB 6.0, the vendor will also release a new SQL interface and data federation capabilities for its Atlas cloud database service.
