Version 2206 of Microsoft 365 was pulled due to app crashes

Published on Aug 19, 2022

The Microsoft 365 version 2206 update has been pulled after users reported that their Office applications crash when they view contact cards or hover over a user’s name or photo.

The bug was introduced with Version 2206 of the Monthly Enterprise Channel (build 15330.20298), released as part of Microsoft’s August Patch Tuesday.

It is possible to receive exception errors 0xc0000005 and 0xc0000374 when attempting to open a user’s contact card or hovering over their name/picture in emails, comments, or shared documents.

Microsoft Answers forum and Reddit report that this is a widespread problem, but there is only one solution: downgrade to Enterprise channel 2205.

Whenever I move the cursor over the picture or icon of the sender of an email, outlook immediately crashes,” explained a Microsoft 365 on the Microsoft Answers forum.

Microsoft has issued the MO412229 advisory stating that version 2206 of Microsoft 365 has been pulled while diagnostic data is gathered.

According to the Microsoft advisory regarding these crashes, “While we continue to investigate precisely why this occurred, we’ve reverted to the last known unaffected version to expedite remediation.”.

This issue can be mitigated by rolling back to version 2205 for users already on version 2206 of Microsoft 365.

The Microsoft 365 admin centre or these instructions can roll back to version 2205 of Microsoft 365.

EMEA users could not connect to Microsoft 365 services because of a Cisco Meraki Snort rule.
