The LSET Arena is not just a competition, it’s a stage for innovation, intelligence, and leadership. While every team that competes demonstrates creativity and skill, only the most exceptional teams earn the rare opportunity to receive an official invitation to form a company backed by the LSET Incubator.
This comprehensive handbook defines what exceptional means at LSET, outlining the key qualities, performance criteria, and expectations that distinguish the best from the rest. It serves as an essential guide for contestants preparing to compete and for mentors and judges assessing teams throughout the challenge.
Exceptional teams are not defined by perfection they are defined by potential, perseverance, and purpose.
Objective: Measure the novelty, creativity, and real-world relevance of the team’s idea.
Judges will evaluate your team’s ability to identify meaningful problems and develop original solutions that create genuine value. This criterion examines not just what you build, but why it matters and how it differs from existing approaches.
Objective: Evaluate whether the idea can realistically be built and executed with available resources and technologies.
This criterion examines your team’s technical competence and ability to translate vision into reality. Judges assess not only your understanding of the technology required, but also your capacity to navigate technical challenges and deliver working solutions.
Objective: Assess whether the idea has the potential to become a viable, sustainable business.
Beyond technical excellence, judges evaluate your commercial acumen and understanding of market dynamics. This includes your grasp of customer needs, competitive landscape, and pathways to generating revenue and achieving growth.
Exceptional teams think like entrepreneurs, balancing innovation with impact.
Objective: Examine how effectively the team works together and leads under time constraints and competitive pressure.
Great ideas require great teams to execute them. This criterion evaluates your team’s dynamics, role distribution, communication effectiveness, and ability to adapt when faced with unexpected challenges during the Arena.
Objective: Evaluate how clearly and persuasively the team communicates its solution to judges and stakeholders.
Your ability to articulate your vision is as important as the vision itself. Judges assess your storytelling skills, confidence, time management, and capacity to inspire belief in your team’s future potential and the broader impact of your solution.
Exceptional Status: Teams achieving an overall score of 85% or higher will be considered Exceptional. From these, the LSET Incubator Committee will select the team(s) that demonstrate readiness to form a company and receive investment support.

The LSET Arena is your platform to demonstrate exceptional thinking, execution, and leadership. Whether you’re competing for the first time or returning with refined ambitions, remember that being exceptional isn’t about perfection—it’s about potential, perseverance, and purpose.
We look forward to witnessing your innovation journey and supporting the teams that embody the spirit of LSET: bold, capable, and ready to shape the future of technology and enterprise.
