Hello and welcome to LSET Tech Bites. In this video, we will learn How to Install VirtualBox in the Windows operating system.
Let’s take a brief look at VirtualBox before installing it.
Using Oracle’s VirtualBox virtualisation application, you can create virtual machines for running other versions of Windows or other platforms alongside the many operating systems without having to set up dual-booting or configure another computer. It can be installed on Windows 11 (or 10), Mac, and Linux.
VirtualBox is crafted to operate seamlessly on both Intel and AMD hardware. While primarily targeted as an enterprise solution, it is also accessible for home use, accommodating a diverse range of guest operating systems such as Windows 11, Windows 8, Windows 7, Vista, and earlier versions, as well as Supports others.
Let’s begin the installation of VirtualBox
Follow these steps to install VirtualBox on Windows. Open a web browser and type “VirtualBox Download” in the search bar.
Click on the first link that appears
Clicking on it will redirect you to the Oracle download page.
Please scroll down
Click on the “Windows hosts” option under the “VirtualBox binaries” section and save the installers to your computer. To launch the installer, double-click the VirtualBox-Win.exe file. Please click the Next button.
Once again, click the Next button.
Changing the default setup settings is unnecessary unless you have specific requirements to install VirtualBox.
To continue with the installation of VirtualBox, click the Next button.
Click the “Yes” button on Windows 11. confirm the installation of the virtual network adapter.
To install any required dependencies (if needed), click the Yes button.
Please click on the Install button.
Now click on the Finish button.
Upon completion of the installation steps, the software will automatically launch and complete the installation. Like any other application, the virtual box can also be found from the Start menu.
Configure VirtualBox on Windows 11
Even though the default settings are likely suitable for most users, VirtualBox has many features and settings. In the following steps, We will highlight some fundamental settings everyone should contemplate modifying while working with virtual machines.
The following steps should be followed to configure VirtualBox settings: Start VirtualBox.
Now Select the Preferences option from the File menu. Select the General tab.
The Default Machine Folder option allows you to specify the location of the folder in which the virtual machines will be stored on Windows 11. An external hard drive is generally recommended
Compatible with Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3. x, and 4. x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, and since using the primary drive can slow down the system.
Please click on the Update button.
Check for updates by selecting the option.
Verify the update settings and whether you wish to use pre-release software.
Click on the Display button (optional).
Set the maximum screen resolution for virtual machines in the Maximum Guest Screen Size option. Select the scale factor that should be used to make text and visual elements smaller or larger in virtual machines.
Please click the OK button.
The custom configuration will be applied to the virtualisation software once you have completed the steps.
On Windows, install the VirtualBox extension pack.
This extension pack is not required, but it.
Provides compatibility with USB 2.0 and 3.0 devices and VirtualBox RDP: drive encryption, NVMe, and PXE boot for Intel cards.
The following steps should be followed to install the extension pack for VirtualBox:
Go to the Oracle download page.
Click the All supported platforms link under the “VirtualBox Extension Pack” section.
VirtualBox should be opened. In the File menu, select the Tools submenu, and then select the “Extension Pack Manager” option.
Please click on the Install button.
Choose the “.vbox-extract” file containing the extensions.
Please click the Open button.
Select the Install option.
Please scroll down the page.
Click the “I agree” button to confirm your agreement.
After completing the steps, the Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack will be installed on the device. Afterwards, you can create the virtual machine and install the Guest Additions.
