Good Day, everyone! Welcome to our Career Show organised by London School of Emerging Technology (LSET) and today’s topic is Interview Preparation, where we uncover the strategies to present your best self and make a lasting impression on potential employers. I’m your Elizabeth, and I’m excited to guide you through this essential topic today.

An interview is your chance to make a lasting impression on potential employers and showcase your skills and qualifications. So, let’s dive into the strategies and techniques that will help you prepare and excel in any interview scenario.

The first step in interview preparation is thorough research on the company you’re applying to. Understanding their mission, values, products, and services is crucial to demonstrate your genuine interest and alignment with their goals.

Dig deep into their website, social media presence, recent news, and other resources. Take note of their industry position, competitors, and any recent achievements or challenges they may have faced. This knowledge will empower you to ask insightful questions during the interview and engage in meaningful conversations.

Now, let’s talk about crafting impressive responses highlighting your skills, experiences, and achievements.

Start by identifying common interview questions, such as “Tell me about yourself,” “What are your strengths and weaknesses?” and “Why do you want to work here?” Prepare thoughtful and concise responses that emphasise your unique value proposition.

Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your responses to behavioural questions. This technique helps you provide specific examples and demonstrates your ability to handle challenges effectively.

Practise your responses out loud or with a friend to build confidence and ensure clarity. Aim for a balance between showcasing your accomplishments and being humble and authentic in your delivery.

Besides verbal communication, nonverbal cues play a significant role in interview success. Let’s discuss how to master nonverbal communication.

First, dress appropriately for the interview, considering the company’s dress code and industry norms. Remember, it’s better to be slightly overdressed than underdressed.

Maintain good posture, make eye contact, and greet your interviewers with a firm handshake (if appropriate). These actions demonstrate confidence and professionalism.

Pay attention to your body language throughout the interview. Smile naturally, nod to show engagement, and avoid crossing your arms or displaying signs of discomfort.

Finally, be aware of your tone of voice and speaking pace. Speak clearly and at a moderate pace, and listen actively to the interviewer’s questions, allowing them to finish speaking before responding.

As the interview ends, leaving a positive and memorable impression is essential.

Ask insightful questions about the role, company culture, or future opportunities. This shows your enthusiasm and genuine interest in the position.

Express gratitude to the interviewers for their time and consideration. A simple “Thank you for the opportunity to interview with [company name]” can leave a positive final impression.

After the interview, email each interviewer a personalised thank-you email within 24 hours. This gesture reinforces your interest and professionalism.

Interview preparation is key to securing your dream job. By conducting thorough research, crafting impressive responses, mastering nonverbal communication, and closing the interview with grace.
